A few weeks before Christmas in the winter of 2011, I met my wife through the introduction of a close friend. 와이프와 저 둘 다 영화를 좋아라해서 첫 만남부터 서로 잘 통한다는 것을 알 수 있었습니다. My wife and I both like movies, so we knew we could get along well from the first meeting. 그런데 영화 취향은 조금 달랐어요. But the taste of the movie was a little different. 와이프는 조금 마이너하고 대중적이지 않은 예술 .. 한국어로 청주 날씨를 묻는 그, 예스맨 (The man who asks about the weather of Cheongju in Korea, YES MAN) 짐캐리, 제가 참 좋아하는 영화배우 입니다. Jim Carrey, one of my favorite movie stars. 사실 제가 그를 좋아하는지도 잘 몰랐는데, 이 영화를 보고나서부터 그의 영화를 보면 항상 마음이 따뜻해진다는 걸 깨달았어요. Actually, I didn't even know I liked him, but after watching this movie, I realized that watching his movie always warmed my heart. 2008년 개봉했으니 벌써 10년도 지났네요. It's already been 10 years since it was released in 2008. 전세계가 미국의 서브프라임 모기지 사태로 힘들어하던 그 해 겨울에 개봉을 했죠.. 영화는 현실을 앞서간다지만, 아웃브레이크 (They say the movie is ahead of reality but... Outbreak) 영화는 현실을 바탕으로 만들어지지만 현실을 앞서가기도 하죠. Movies are based on reality, but they are also ahead of reality. 역사를 재현한 영화가 있는가하면 미래의 모습을 가상으로 만들었는데 그게 실제로 구현되는 영화도 있어요. There are movies that reproduce history, and there are movies that are made by imagining what the future will look like, and there are movies that are actually realized. 후자의 대표적인 예가 "백투더퓨처2"에서 그려진 미래의 모습이 아닐까 싶습니다. (그 미래의 배경이 2015년인데 이미 5년 전.. 한국 영화는 이 영화의 전과 후로 나뉜다??? 접속 (Korean movies are divided into before and after this movie??? Contact) 미안한 말이지만 한국 영화는 극장에서 잘 안봅니다. I'm sorry, but I don't watch Korean movies in theaters. 극장에서 보는 영화는 당연 헐리우드 영화라는 생각, 한국영화는 명절때 텔레비전으로 보는 영화라는 생각을 늘 하고 있었죠. I always thought that watching movies in theaters is a Hollywood movie, and that watching Korean movies on TV during holidays. 아직도 이런 편견이 없는건 아니지만 그런 편견에 대해서 다시 생각하게 해 준 우리나라 영화가 있다면 단연 이 영화, "접속"일 겁니다. I still have some of these prejudices, but.. 극장에서 3D 공포를 체험한 이유, 링 (Reasons for experiencing 3D horror in theaters, Ring) 저는 영화를 참 좋아합니다. I like movies very much. 몰입감을 높이기 위해 혼자 극장에서 영화보는걸 즐깁니다. I enjoy watching movies alone in theaters to increase my immersion. 열린 마음으로 영화를 선택합니다만 공포영화만은 절대 안고르려고 합니다ㅠ I choose a movie with an open mind, but I'm never going to embrace a horror movie. 그런데 가령 회사에서 단체로 영화를 보러간다거나 하면 저에게 선택권이 없죠ㅠ But when I go to the movies as a group, I don't have a choice.ᅲ 이 영화가 그랬습니다. This movie was.. 고딩이 감당하기에는 충격적이던... 크라잉게임 (shocking to a high school student, CRYING GAME) 영화는 당연히 미성년자관람불가였습니다. Of course, the movie was NC-17, not for minors. 그래서 집에 부모님이 안계실 때 혼자서 비디오로 빌려봤어요. So when my parents weren't home, I rented a video by myself. 이 영화를 봐야겠다 싶었던 이유가 정확히 기억나지는 않습니다. I don't remember exactly why I wanted to watch this movie. 예상할 수 있는 이유는 이랬을거에요. Here's why I can expect it now. 영화가 왜 이렇게 유명한걸까라는 이성적 호기심 반 + 미성년자관람불가니까 얼마나 므흣한걸까라는 야성적 호기심 반 50% of rational curiosi.. 공감 "0" 중년의 사랑, 그런데 왜 눈물이 났을까? 매디슨카운티의 다리 (Middle-aged love that I couldn't understand, but why did I cry?...The Bridges of Madison County) 1990년대 초중반, 당시에는 라디오에서 책 광고를 많이 했었는데 "매디슨카운티의 다리", 제가 고딩때 책이 베스트셀러였던걸로 기억합니다. In the early and mid-1990s, there were a lot of book ads on the radio, "The Bridges of Madison County" and I remember that when I was in high school, books were bestsellers. 책과 담을 쌓고 있던 전는 그저 그렇고 그런 사랑얘기겠거니 생각했습니다. I didn't read a lot of books, but I thought it would be about love. 그런데 제가 95학번 새내기시절, 이 소설이 영화로 개봉을 하는 겁.. 단지 몇 장면만 봤을 뿐, 이블데드 (I've only seen a few scenes... Ash vs. Evil Dead) 공포영화는 정말 저의 취향이 아닙니다ㅠ Horror movies are really not my taste. 반전이 매력적인 서스펜스까지는 용납합니다. I accept the suspense movies that have an attractive twist. 하지만 무서운 귀신 영화나 사람을 마구 찌르고 자르는 하드코어 영화는 보고 싶지 않아요. But I don't want to watch scary ghost movies or hardcore movies that stab and cut people. 지금까지 전적으로 타인의 선택으로 극장에서 공포영화를 몇 번 본적은 있습니다.
